The Intersection Podcast

Episode 14: Guest Thoha on Being a Muslim Woman in Canada.

YEG Wellness Collective Season 1 Episode 14

During this Episode, YWC was honoured to have Linda's friend Thoha  Mahmood as our special guest. Thoha is a Communications and Events Manager. She has worked with several local politicians and attended the University of Alberta for her BA in Arts.
B, Jo, and Linda wanted to talk about the hate crimes against the Muslim community in Canada, particularly in Edmonton, Alberta. We felt that it would be more appropriate to have a Muslim woman )that is inspiring) share her experience with us. Thoha discusses the intersectionality of being not only a woman, but a Muslim woman, and how navigating the two identities affects her and Muslim people, especially Muslim woman. Thoha also calls us and the listeners in, to be better allies. We discuss the use of words and their power and how we need to unlearn and re-learn new and better ways to discuss important issues.
We discuss the burden the minority community feel while living in a world of whiteness, and how being othered affects our daily activities.
We hope that you enjoyed this episode. B, Jo, and Linda learned a lot from our amazing Guest Thoha. To the Muslim community, particularly, Muslim women, and Muslim women of colour, YWC  Stands with you. Thoha, thank you so much for trusting us with your experience. We heard you, we see you, and we are here for you.
